Mountain Goats and Sheep

Mountain goats are agile climbers. When you travel through the Rockies, you can often see them perched on a steep mountain face, or jumping from one precarious perch to another. Their feet have specially adapted to give them a sure-footedness. Goats have horns as seen in the above photo. The males are called billies, the females, nannies, and the babies, kids.

Mountain sheep are tan colored and the males have curled horns. You can tell the age of the sheep by counting the rings on its horns. As you travel through the Rockies, you will often see small herds of these wild sheep as they come to lick the salt from the roadsides.
