Inuksuk

Background Information

Inuksuks were used to help with hunting.

The stones were chosen and arranged so that they could stay standing during a storm.

Inuksuks were used for communication and survival.

Inuksuks can be a series of stones, or just one or two.

They can be used to show direction or serve as a message to people.

The children have worked hard to research how Inuksuks look and are made. They have gone on the internet and looked through many different information books from the library to see how they were designed.

The children know that each Inuksuk is as individual as its maker.

The Inuksuks are displayed in the classroom.  The children were excited to see their Inuksuks complete. We got rocks donated to us by landscaping companies.  The children researched on the Internet and in information books. No two Inuksuks are alike. The children saw many pictures of Inuksuks. They knew that they are unique.
